Scholarship Program

Italian Charities of America Scholarship Program

Italian Charities of America since its founding in 1936 has offered their college scholarship program. Italian Charities of America as a nonprofit organization is proud that we have upheld this tradition and have awarded countless students year after year with scholarships. We have had the privilege of seeing young, talented and goal-oriented students succeed in life and their careers. We hope that our scholarships can help in any way to assist financially and prepare students in their educational endeavors.

To be qualified to apply to the Italian Charities of America scholarship program a family member must be a current member of our organization for at least one year in good standing. For example, a member can nominate a family member such as a daughter, son, niece, nephew or grandchild to apply for a scholarship. The applicant must be a current high school senior, must be at least one quarter of Italian ancestry and must be attending a college and provide a proof of acceptance and transcript.

Every year several $1000.00 scholarships will be awarded to applicants chosen by Italian Charities of America based on reviewing students’ qualifications and submission of requirements as listed on the scholarship application. Each year a mailing will be sent out to members of our organization, if you do not receive our scholarship mailing by May of the current year, please contact our office by phone or email.

Giuseppe Caruso Memorial Scholarship

 &

Vincent P. Cucchiara Memorial Scholarship

Giuseppe “Joe” Caruso was a Board Member and Treasurer, who left us in 2022. Giuseppe tirelessly volunteered for over 20 years at Italian Charities of America to improve and assist the organization with planning and attending events, volunteering at our Saturday Night Dances, cooking for special events, helped out in our non-profit building and cared for the garden.  If you have ever attended a Saturday Night Dance at Italian Charities of America then you know Joe, he was on the dance floor all night and collecting 50/50!

Vincent P. Cucchiara was a Board Member and Treasurer who left us too soon and unexpectedly in 2018. Vincent was such an integral part of Italian Charities of America and helped the organization in many ways, as well as anyone who needed a helping hand. He selfishly worked hard, volunteered and went out of his way for this organization and everyone he knew. Vincent exceeded his duties as both a Board Member and Treasurer and volunteered above and beyond. Vincent served on the board for our 4 years as Treasurer and then briefly served as an Acting President.

The recipients of Giuseppe Caruso and Vincent P. Cucchiara Memorial Scholarships are chosen by their essay submissions on how the student relates to being a Renaissance Man or Women. The recipients will receive a Renaissance Award in addition to the scholarship award.

With the generosity of donations from the Italian Charities members as well as the family, friends and acquaintances of Giuseppe Caruso and Vincent P. Cucchiara these scholarships are made possible.
